Faraway Fan
I’ve lived in many cities and loved many baseball teams, but when the Nationals and I moved to DC in 2005, I took it as a sign we were meant to be. Not just because we arrived the same year, but because I was reunited with my original hometown franchise, the Montreal Expos. I was born in Montreal the year that the team had its first winning season in franchise history. I won’t forget scooping up $23 tickets in October 2012 and seeing Jayson Werth’s homer in the bottom of the 9th. I won’t forget taking my daughter to her first game at 3 weeks old and discovering how good Nats Park is to new mothers, with a stroller valet and nursing room full of tvs. And I’m so glad little gal, a friend and I ducked out of school early this year to walk down to Opening Day, never imagining how much would change between then and the World freakin Series.
We may be 7,000 miles away today, but we had the radio on at 5am and listened to a win over breakfast.
